Currently, 30.8 million American adults smoke cigarettes. Considering this is 12.5% of the population, it's likely you're a smoker too.
You know it's a bad habit, but just aren't ready to quit yet. In that case, you should switch to vaping.
Many beginners like to start with vape pens since they're compact but have good battery life. While they do come with instructions, it helps to know what's in store for you. That way, you can buy another type if it's not what you expected.
Keep reading to find out how to use a vape pen correctly.
The Equipment
First, you should know the parts that make up a vape pen. This makes it so later instructions won't be confusing.
The vape pen is long and cylindrical. The bottom half is the battery; there's usually an LCD display screen in front so you can see the settings. The battery then screws into the threading.
The threading connects the battery to the coil, which then leads to the tank or pod. This is where you put your e-juice, which comes in different flavors. When the e-juice goes through the coil, it gets vaporized.
On the very top is the drip tip, which prevents leakage. And of course, you vape through the mouthpiece.
Other parts include the micro USB charging port on the battery and the charging cable.
How to Fill a Vape Pen
There are 2 ways to fill a vape pen: pod or tank. It shouldn't be difficult to fill your e-liquid of choice with either.
However, if you don't want to deal with filling a vape pen, you can always buy disposable ones. These are affordable and allow you to try different e-juices too.
Pod-Based Vape Pens
Pull out the pod from your vape pen. Locate the filling hole, which has a silicone stopper on it. It should be on the pod's bottom or side.
Once you've removed the stopper, you can add the e-liquid until it's almost full. Put the stopper back and the pod back into your vape pen.
Tank-Based Vape Pens
A tank's even easier to fill since you don't have to remove it from the vape pen. Instead, twist the top hardware off.
Then, fill the e-liquid in the tank's outer part. Be careful not to get any inside the central air channel.
When the tank's full, put the top hardware back.
How to Use a Vape Pen
There are 2 types of vape pens: push-button and draw-activated. Both are easy to operate and vape with.
Make sure that if you've just filled your device with e-liquid, you wait a few minutes. This ensures that the wick is completely saturated.
Push-Button Vape Pens
If electronics often accidentally turn on in your bags, then these are ideal for you.
To turn on these vape pens, you have to press the button 5 times. If you have one that has variable voltage outputs, then push the button 3 times to change the settings. Press it twice to activate the pre-heat mode if it's available.
When the vape pen's ready for use, its light will turn on. You can then take as many puffs as you want.
To turn the device off, press the button 5 times again.
There are some devices that are button-activated. In this case, you'll have to hold down the button while vaping.
Draw-Activated Vape Pens
There aren't any buttons involved with draw-activated vape pens, so they're simple to use. This also means there are fewer features.
When you want to vape, just puff on the device. And when you're done, you can put your vape pen away without having to press extra buttons.
How to Store a Vape Pen
If you have a push-button vape pen, always remember to turn it off after use. That way, the battery won't die prematurely.
You should always store your vape pens upright to avoid leakage. It should also be placed somewhere that's room temperature and in the dark. The same goes for the e-liquids; they can go in the fridge or freezer.
How to Clean a Vape Pen
You should clean your vape pen regularly (at least once a week). It's essential for good hygiene, and it'll prolong your device's lifespan.
First, disassemble your vape pen. Get cotton swabs and dip them in rubbing alcohol.
You can then scrub the inside and outside of your mouthpiece. If it's especially dirty, you can presoak it in rubbing alcohol for an hour before you scrub it. Either way, let it air dry on a clean paper towel.
You can use cotton swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol for other parts of your vape pen. However, you should never submerge any of the parts in rubbing alcohol, besides the mouthpiece.
It's vital that you allow all pieces to air dry completely before you put the vape pen back together.
Other Important Information
Always charge your vape pen fully before use. This can prevent you from having a disappointing session.
Also, make sure you're using the proper voltage settings. Too high a voltage setting can burn your e-juice, which can then affect how smooth the hit is.
